We are now requesting your input on the SBISD Calendar Survey - Round II.

Here’s why:

2019-2020

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) shifted the testing window for the 2019-2020 STAAR test, with testing now scheduled to end on May 21, 2020. This shift, combined with an early Memorial Day weekend, makes ending school prior to Memorial Day in the 2019-2020 unfeasible, as our students would take the STAAR test the last week of school.

Given this new information, the District Improvement Team has developed new draft calendars for the 2019-2020 school year for your review and feedback.

2020-2021

Our first round calendar drafts for 2020-2021 did not account for a presidential election day in November 2020. Feedback around safety and security received from parents and staff following the 2016 presidential election, given that our schools are used by Harris County as election polling sites, has led district senior leadership to request that Election Day 2020 be a student holiday.

Thus, we have used the preferred Round I 2020-2021 calendar and created two new options for community consideration, with Nov. 3, 2020, as a student holiday.
