At their Monday, June 17 Special Meeting, the SBISD Board of Trustees voted to the change the closure timeline of Spring Shadows Elementary (SSE) from the 2025-26 school year as originally approved by Trustees on March 25, 2024, to be effective instead beginning for the 2024-25 school year.
District administration recommended this change in timeline to the Board of Trustees due to unforeseen hiring challenges precluding the district from adequately staffing SSE for the upcoming school year. While the district has worked aggressively to fill these classroom teaching positions, at this point in the hiring season, our priority must be on providing an excellent educational experience for our SSE students. It would not be educationally sound, or in our students’ best interests, to have a large number of anticipated teacher vacancies to start the school year.
Spring Shadows Elementary will close as of June 30, 2024, with students attending their rezoned school (Buffalo Creek, Pine Shadows or Terrace Elementary) for the 2024-25 school year. SSE staff will follow their students to the rezoned campuses. Meetings have been held with staff members at all impacted schools, and Spring Shadows Elementary families have been notified of their new rezoned school. Terrace, Pine Shadows and Buffalo Creek families also received a message from their principal about this change in the SSE closure timeline and the opportunity for their school communities to welcome new students from Spring Shadows for the upcoming school year.
Transition Open Houses have been planned in July for students and families to get to know their new schools.
We thank our Spring Shadows Elementary principal, staff and families as well as our Terrace, Pine Shadows and Buffalo Creek school communities who will receive these staff and families for their support and for all they are doing and will continue to do to ensure a smooth transition for all. |
