Kindergartners contribute to Clean Hands Drive

When Bunker Hill kindergartners Kate Walker, Emily Parks, Evelyn Garner and Quinn McBeth were planning their joint sixth birthday party, they decided to pay forward the idea of receiving gifts. Their moms suggested SBEF’s Clean Hands Drive. Gifts of sanitizer wipes and pumps and tissues help keep students healthy. The girls were all in.

When guests arrived at the party, they brought checks and cash totaling $630, enough to supply four grade levels. They added to the fun by learning a hip-hop dance and entertaining parents as they arrived for pick-up. Thank you, Kate, Emily, Evelyn and Quinn!

Pink Laces fundraiser benefits Jennie Baker and SBEF

Each October, Stratford’s football team wears pink shoe laces to raise awareness of breast cancer recovery. It also raises funds to help a Stratford family member who is affected by the disease. This year’s recipient is Jennie Baker, SBEF Chair and a long-time Stratford mom and volunteer. Her daughter, Marcie, is a Stratford grad and teacher.

Cody Schwartz, football coach and history teacher, says the fundraiser is an example of “Stratford taking care of Stratford no matter what. This is a special place, and the main reason is its people. The spirit and camaraderie are second to none.”

In accepting the gift of $550, Jennie chose to donate it to SBEF. “Not only is SBEF near and dear to me, but I know the money will be used to serve the Stratford community as a scholarship or grant. I’m honored the team chose to recognize my battle with breast cancer, but also Marcie’s battle as a family member. I’m grateful.”

Style Show started successful season

Memorial residents Kim Conrad, Sheri Gross and Tanna Myers co-chaired Spring Branch Education Foundation’s most successful Style Show and Luncheon on Sept. 13. The event raised $48,327 for grants that will enhance education for Spring Branch ISD’s 35,000 students.

The men and women in attendance were eager to see the newest fall fashions, and the event did not disappoint. Produced by Todd Ramos, the Style Show included fashions by Chloe Dao, Elizabeth Purpich, Kimora Lee Simmons and Lucho. SBISD staff, parents and volunteers received cheers from friends and colleagues as they walked the Royal Sonesta’s runway.

Totally 80s Gala was a total triumph

When SBEF supporters traveled back to the future, they discovered the ‘80s were as fun as they remembered (or were told). They also contributed to the Foundation’s highest netting gala, to the tune of $173,433!

Chairs Linda and Tom DeBesse, along with honorary chairs SBISD Superintendent Dr. Jennifer and Will Blaine, hosted an evening of fun, along with dancing to Molly and the Ringwalds. Carter and Chris Breed contributed the auction item of the evening: dinner for eight at the Breed home with the superintendent and two board of trustee members. The dinner sold three times!
